Over the weekend I read a little about the anniversary of the awful attack and murder of Amish children in Pennsylvania. When the tragedy happened, many of us were amazed and challenged by the readiness of the Amish to forgive. So, this past weekend I read a quotation from one of the Amish who had suffered personal loss, he said something like, "As acid corrodes its container, so resentment corrodes the heart". Powerful imagery, powerfully true.
It is for our health that an authentic spirituality will call for the letting-go of resentment; and, of course, it doesn't really achieve anything anyway!
