Prayer for the Day - Friday May 24th

Bible Verse: "No sooner had Boaz gone up to the gate and sat down the next of kind (of whom Boaz had spoken) came passing by" - Ruth 4:1

Reflection: All this just a coincidence? Surely not. Boaz wants to meet this man to arrange for a proper marriage with Ruth... Boaz does what he can and then God does what He can "the man came passing by". This is a good example of what it means to co-operate with the Lord.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, today help me strength to do what I can and trust to look for you to act. In Jesus' Name. Amen

God-Talk - The Ecstasy and The Agony (well...!!!)

About a week ago a warm and cozy blanket of sun's rays covered Philadelphia and, I've seen this now for several years, suddenly Rittenhouse Square was packed with sun-worshippers. I muse often that these folk are skulking behind bushes and lying low in the grass so that when the right temperature is reached... they appear! It was great to see the Square taking on its Spring and Summer mode though I still am surprised (and a little pleased) to note how many seem to view the grass as sand on some rather relaxed Florida beach...

So, there's the Ecstasy but the Agony... well, look at the picture. It is hardly credible that a group of people could just leave, abandon the wretched detritus of their "happy meal". Please, there were no children there for what a glorious example that would be for young minds! This stark propinquity of pleasure and pain, of enjoyment and ignorance is one, I confess, that I have suffered though less and less - thanks be to God! And I choose to focus on the glory or gory, the blessed or banal!

And you want to know whether I cleared the mess away. No I did not... I was late for an appointment but when I returned with willingness to do the deeed... it had gone. Now there's a story of grace and hope.
